I have not found myself interested in blogging over the past few months and I thought maybe it was time to move on, but I love to write and I find blogging to be a great hobby to express myself. I decided that with the new year I would keep Rachael Turns Pages, but it is time for it to move. I'm starting a new wordpress blog. I want the freedom to be about to write about more than just books. I'm going to be writing a lot about my life on this new blog. I'm so excited to announce that Rachael Turns Pages has officially moved to <a href="http://rachaelchristina.com/">rachaelchristina.com</a> and I hope you will follow my new blog and join me on this journey called life.Rachaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16995852403732466959noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4136855315471306013.post-87001136549041339392018-08-27T06:00:00.000-07:002018-08-27T16:23:49.511-07:00Jodi Picoult A Spark of Light GiveawayJodi Picoult is at it again with her new novel A Spark of Light. Jodi's publisher was kind of enough to get in contact with me and offer a giveaway to all my blog readers. I have been a long time fan of Jodi Picoult and have always really enjoyed her books. I'm excited to read her newest novel.<br />

<span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: "merriweather" , "georgia" , serif; font-size: 14px;">The warm fall day starts like any other at the Center—a women’s reproductive health services clinic—its staff offering care to anyone who passes through its doors. Then, in late morning, a desperate and distraught gunman bursts in and opens fire, taking all inside hostage.</span><br />
<br style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px;" />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: "merriweather" , "georgia" , serif; font-size: 14px;">After rushing to the scene, Hugh McElroy, a police hostage negotiator, sets up a perimeter and begins making a plan to communicate with the gunman. As his phone vibrates with incoming text messages he glances at it and, to his horror, finds out that his fifteen-year-old daughter, Wren, is inside the clinic.</span><br />
<br style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px;" />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: "merriweather" , "georgia" , serif; font-size: 14px;">But Wren is not alone. She will share the next and tensest few hours of her young life with a cast of unforgettable characters: A nurse who calms her own panic in order save the life of a wounded woman. A doctor who does his work not in spite of his faith but because of it, and who will find that faith tested as never before. A pro-life protester disguised as a patient, who now stands in the cross hairs of the same rage she herself has felt. A young woman who has come to terminate her pregnancy. And the disturbed individual himself, vowing to be heard.</span><br />
<br style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px;" />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: "merriweather" , "georgia" , serif; font-size: 14px;">Told in a daring and enthralling narrative structure that counts backward through the hours of the standoff, this is a story that traces its way back to what brought each of these very different individuals to the same place on this fateful day.</span><br />
<br style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px;" />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: "merriweather" , "georgia" , serif; font-size: 14px;">Jodi Picoult—one of the most fearless writers of our time—tackles a complicated issue in this gripping and nuanced novel. How do we balance the rights of pregnant women with the rights of the unborn they carry? What does it mean to be a good parent? </span><i style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Merriweather, Georgia, serif; font-size: 14px;">A Spark of Light</i><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: "merriweather" , "georgia" , serif; font-size: 14px;"> will inspire debate, conversation . . . and, hopefully, understanding.</span><br />

I'm so excited for Dewey's first ever reverse readathon and it couldn't have happened on a more perfect weekend. It starts in just around 15 minutes and lasts until 7 pm tomorrow night. I don't have many plans this weekend, so it will be the perfect time to sit around and read.<br />
<br />
I'm planning on getting in around 2 hours of reading tonight and then I will get the bulk of my reading in tomorrow. I'll be back in a few hours to update you on my progress.Rachaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16995852403732466959noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4136855315471306013.post-28491998762057499632018-07-04T12:45:00.000-07:002018-07-04T12:45:15.723-07:00Summer TBR Wipeout Sign Up and Goal <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So I'm not off to the greatest start with my COYER summer reading list, but last year this challenge was a huge help with my COYER list. I would like to try to read 6 books off the list for the challenge. I will be back for weekly updates again, which really motivates me to keep going with the challenge. </div>

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Alegreya, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: center;">Today I'm posting an update on the releases I missed posts that went live in January. I don't usually do midyear updates, but since I'm trying to read books oof these lists an update is sometimes helpful to see the progress. I started off the year with 16 books on my 2013, 2014, 2015 list and I'm now down to 13 even though I have finished Everything Leads to You yet. I'm counting it because I'm going to finish it in the next couple of days. </span><br />

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Alegreya, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: center;">My 2016 list had 14 books at the beginning of the year and now I'm down to 13, so I've only read one book so far. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Alegreya, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: center;">I started off with 14 books for my 2017 releases and I have read one book taking my total down to 13 books. </span><br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Alegreya, serif;"><span style="background-color: white;">This is the first time that all three lists have had the same number of books on them, but I'm definetly hoping to read some more books off these lists before the end of the year. </span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Alegreya, serif;"><span style="background-color: white;">So far this year I have read 5 books off these lists. Destiny Rewritten is a 2013 Release, Ophelia and Everything Leads to You are 2014 Releases, First Comes Love is a 2016 Release, and Lucky in Love is a 2017 Release. </span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">

21,22,23 Then Came You, Summerland, and Stay: I'm interested in reading all this authors, but I haven't read anything by them yet. Yes do I see these books eventually being read or deleted from the list yes, but for now I'm comfortable leaving them on the list.<br />
<br />
24. The Five People You Meet in Heaven: I read a book by Mitch Albom years ago and I have never picked him up again despite that I liked that book that I previously read. I'm deleting off the list because I don't think I'm going to read it.<br />
<br />
25. Will Grayson Will Grayson: this book is saved by my Deal Me In Challenge. I don't think I want to read this book, but it is on my list I made in 2015, so I'm going to at least try it before I delete it.<br />
<br />
26, 27. The Shadow of the Bear and Beauty: these were in my early days of fairy tale retellings and I read more fairy tale retellings when I added these two. I'm taking them off the list because I have so many newer retellings I'm excited to read.<br />
<br />
28. The Sky is Everywhere: I own this one and I do plan to read it pretty soon.<br />
<br />
29. Why We Broke Up: this was all the rage in my early days of watching booktube, but I have never got around to it, so I'm going to let it go off my list.<br />
<br />
30. Stealing Parker: I read the first bookt his year, so I'm excited to read this book pretty soon.Rachaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16995852403732466959noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4136855315471306013.post-55854636556952111422018-06-10T13:23:00.002-07:002018-06-10T13:23:48.699-07:00April and May Wrap Up and June TBR<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

April was an awesome month for reading. After You took me a little bit to get into, but I ended up enjoying it. I really loved They Both Die at the End and The Belles. I ended the month with a book that has been on my TBR forever Enchanted. It was the perfect fairy tale retelling I needed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMmgneb9l6PEd6mxw6nwSV5Ad2Gz_oH7ogC11QF0ZuazcgyQH_xvvsnQTXHI7EX2-Iyd9feJEd5qBoJYwKNjIfy62PjuN_sOHKD2xLbLsz5OkqOqQJC21hp6jd6hczT3PtB_zaUD2Jj1U/s1600/May+Wrap+Up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="467" data-original-width="637" height="234" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMmgneb9l6PEd6mxw6nwSV5Ad2Gz_oH7ogC11QF0ZuazcgyQH_xvvsnQTXHI7EX2-Iyd9feJEd5qBoJYwKNjIfy62PjuN_sOHKD2xLbLsz5OkqOqQJC21hp6jd6hczT3PtB_zaUD2Jj1U/s320/May+Wrap+Up.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I came into a small reading slump in May. I wanted to read The Library Card to take another book off my owned TBR. I ended up not enjoying the book and it took me a lot longer to read than it should of. I also finished The Summer List, which I started in March. I didn't really enjoy this book until the end, but overall it was a pretty forgetable novel for me. I just overall didn't feel like reading in May. I'm happy to tell you that it changed in June and I finished a book early in the month and I'm enjoying the book I'm reading currently. </div>

I read 4/6 books on my March TBR as of now. I have already finished In Conclusion Don't Worry About It. It only takes about a half an hour to read. I'm currently reading First Comes Love and I'm about 100 pages from the finish. I'm so excited for My Plain Jane. It has been the book that I'm most excited to read this year. </div>

<span style="color: #141412; font-family: Source Sans Pro, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Another Dewey's readathon has come to an end. I enjoyed this readathon, so much despite being busy. My mom and I went to the high school musical 9 to 5 and it was so funny and very cute. We got home around 9:30 and then I made my bed and my brothers bed. At that post it was past 10 o clock. I layed on the couch and read for as long as I could. I was falling asleep, so I went to bed. </span></div>

I've been pretty quiet this readathon. This afternoon I watched the movie Miracles from Heaven, which I enjoyed and from about 4:00-4:30 I took a short nap and put away laundry. This readathon I feel like I haven't been as distracted by technology, but more distracted just by chores around the house.<br />

We got that cleaned up, but I lost about two hours of the readathon. I have been reading and taking breaks throughout the day to finish the laundry. </span></span><br />

Here is my TBR Dare Wrap Up. My goal is always to limit new releases as much as possible and reduce my goodreads TBR. This year I managed to read 13 books. I did read one new release during the challenge period. My goodreads TBR started at 394 and I'm ending the challenge at 398 books. I did manage to read some books that have been on the list for a long time such as If We Kiss, Catching Jordan, and Mercy. </div>

This month I decided to ignore all the library books I have checked out and just read books off my own shelf. I managed to complete 3 books from my shelves, which I think is the most I have ever read for this challenge. I'm currently reading another book from my shelf because this challenge got me super excited about books that I own. I have so many good books on my shelf and I totally want to get around to more of them this year. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
11, 12, 13 Perfect Math, Second Glance, and Keeping Faith by Jodi Picout- Same thing as last time. Jodi Picoult is my favorite author and I'm working my way through reading all of her books. I have almost read all of them. I believe I have 7 left to be caught up. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
14. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini- I have wanted to read this book since I was a senior in high school. I own the book, so I'm going to keep it on the list, but if I decide to unhaul the original book then this one will also get removed from the list. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
15, 16. Just Another Girl, and On This Day by Melody Carlson- I used to be a big Melody Carlson fan. I read a lot of her books while I was in high school, but since then I don't read her much anymore. These get to stay on the list because they are apart of my Deal Me In Challenge. If they are not finished by the time that challenge ends they will be removed from the list. I do catch up on her Christmas novels every couple of years. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
17. A Little House Sampler by Laura Ingalls Wilder and Rose Wilder- this is written by Laura and her daughter Rose, so I will get around to this one eventually. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
18. Already Home by Susan Mallery- This one almost got removed, but I got sucked in by the summary. I checked the book out from the library and I'm going to give it try hopefully sometime this month and then decide if I'm going to read it or delete it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
19. Not Quite Dating by Catherine Bybee- my first true delete as part of this project. This sounds like a book I would have loved in high school, but I'm not thrilled about the summary anymore. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
20. Waiting for the Moon by Kristin Hannah- any Kristin Hannah book I have read I have loved, so just expect all her books will be keeps. </div>

March went so much better than February. After a month of no 5 star reads I was up for some books that I would fall in love with. I started Lucky in Love by Kasie West in February, but didn't finish it until early March. I loved this one. It was really cute, at times unrealistic, and a really fun read. I loved<a href="http://rachaelc94.blogspot.com/2018/03/my-tbr-list-review-on-mystic-lake-by.html"> On Mystic Lake</a> by Kristin Hannah. It sucked me in and I was so invested in this story. I recieved The Dreaming Road by Elizabeth Moore for review and I'm so happy I accepted this review request. I don't think this would have been a book that I would have chosen to pick up otherwise, but I enjoyed it so much and I even wrote a full review you can <a href="http://rachaelc94.blogspot.com/2018/03/book-review-dreaming-road-by-elizabeth.html">read here. </a> The last book I finished in March was the 5th book in the Anne of Green Gables series. I love Anne, in this novel she finally gets married and has her first child. There is a lot of heartbreak as well as happy times in this novel.<br />
<br />
I also took part in Take Control of Your TBR Pile this month and I read 2 books for the challenge. Focusing on books that I own opened me up to my TBR pile again and let me see how many amazing books I have sitting on my shelf. I started After You by Jojo Moyes during March, but didn't finish it until April. This was another book that I own that I picked up after The Dreaming Road. I'm excited to read many more books off my shelf this year. I also donated my copy of On Mystic Lake, 1225 Christmas Tree Lane, and Between Friends by Debbie Macomber to my college library when I went up to visit my friends towards the end of the month.<br />

After ignoring library books for the month of March I have a bunch to catch up on before their due dates. I'm currently reading They Both Die at the End and The Summer List (recieved from netgalley). I'm excited to get to all these books on my list. I'm ready to start reading some new releases since TBR Dare is over, so I've got three new releases on the list.Rachaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16995852403732466959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4136855315471306013.post-8630739733530400652018-04-05T06:00:00.000-07:002018-04-05T06:00:05.790-07:00How My Goodreads TBR has Grown and Changed April 2018<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wanted to update you guys quarterly this year on my mission to reduce my goodreads TBR. Historically my Goodreads TBR has increased every single year since I have been blogging. The most dramatic increase was in 2014 where I added over 100 books in the year. I started 2018 with 394 books and I have read some and added some more. My current goodreads TBR is 398. I'm going through my TBR slowly this year with Down the TBR hole and deleting books that I don't want to read anymore, so I'm hoping that this TBR is a lot less by the end of the year. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Let's start with the books I added. Something different about this year is I have been more picky with the books that get added to the list. I want to get all the books that I own on the list, but I also use the list as a way to keep track of the books I keep hearing about and want to read. The last three are books I found at Barnes and Noble that I want to read.<br />
<br />
I Have Lost My Way by Gayle Forman (favorite author)<br />
When My Heart Joins the Thousand by AJ Steiger (sounds interesting)<br />
Don't Forget Me by Victoria Stephens (sounds interesting)<br />
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (own, keep hearing about it)<br />

I have read 10 books off my goodreads TBR. I keep track of this in a spreadsheet, so it is really easy for me to see which books were on my goodreads TBR when I read them. Of these 10 books 3 are physical books I own. 7 books were off my deal me in challenge. Its fun to keep track of the stastics. The number on the book is what number it was on my TBR List. The higher the number the newer the book was. I got If We Kiss, Catching Jordan, and Mercy off the top 30 on the list.<br />
<br />
If We Kiss by Rachel Vail<br />
Catching Jordan by Miranda Keneally<br />
Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy by Karen Foxlee<br />
Destiny Rewritten by Kathryn Fitzmaurice<br />
Princess Academy by Shannon Hale<br />
Panic by Lauren Oliver<br />
Mercy by Jodi Picoult<br />

It is always a continual goal for me to read books on my goodreads TBR list. I started 2016 with 335 books on my TBR and I started 2017 with 368 books on my TBR list. I'm starting 2017 with 394 books on my TBR list. The list is endless as authors continue to write and there is a million good books out there. This year I'm doing the My To Be Read List differently. I'm always going to choose three books from my deal me in/fill in the gaps person challenge. I'm hoping this will help me to knock off more books for that challenge.<br />
<br />
I'm interested to see which one you guys pick. I'm excited to read all of these books.<br />

But when Mario starts hanging out with a rough group of friends and Jordie finally lands the girl of his dreams, Jason is left to fend for himself while maintaining a strained relationship with troubled and quiet Chick.<br />
<br />
Then Jason meets Raine, a girl he thinks is out of his league but who sees him for everything he wants to be, and he finds himself pulled between building a healthy and stable relationship with a girl he might be falling in love with, grieving for his sister, and trying to hold on to the friendships he has always relied on.<br />

Zoe and her best friend, Olivia, have always had big plans for the future, none of which included Olivia getting sick. Still, Zoe is determined to put on a brave face and be positive for her friend.

Even when Olivia misses months of school.<br />

Even when Zoe starts falling for Calvin, Olivia's crush.<br />

The one thing that keeps Zoe moving forward is knowing that Olivia will beat this, and everything will go back to the way it was before. It has to. Because the alternative is too terrifying for her to even imagine.?</div>

I'm a little late wrapping up Coyer Winter Switch. It ended a couple of weeks ago. I feel like I did so much better with my summer list. I stuck to it so much more than I did this one. I read 8 books off my summer list and 7 books off this list. The difference being I really only stuck to my list here in December and January. I have read books that weren't apart of the list since then. With the beginning of the new year my focus changed to reading books that will help me meet my challenge goals and the list just didn't fit my needs anymore. I read one book off my kindle, which was Bah Humbug. I was hoping for a few more, but it didn't end up happening. Here is my wrap up. I'm excited for COYER summer.Rachaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16995852403732466959noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4136855315471306013.post-22435040147770295972018-03-20T06:00:00.000-07:002018-03-20T06:00:28.886-07:00Book Review: The Dreaming Road by Elizabeth Moore (no spoilers)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

On a spring morning in early May, Diane wakes up to find her beautiful 16-year old daughter, Callie, lying dead on the floor of her bedroom. The police find a suicide note in Callie’s jewelry chest and Diane’s whole world, as she had previously known it, falls apart.<br />
<br />
In the afterlife, Callie meets her great grandma, Ellie, who tells her that she’s in a part of heaven called Summer Wind and can never return home again. She wrestles with her abrupt and impulsive decision to take her own life and witnesses the impact that this event has on all who love her.
Diane begins a desperate search for answers by tearing apart Callie’s bedroom looking for anything that might tell her what drove her daughter to suicide. She visits Joy, a spiritual healer, who tells her that she must learn to seek the gift in her experiences rather than remaining addicted to her guilt and pain. Diane struggles with letting-go of the daughter she once knew and all her hopes and dreams for the future.<br />
<br />
Desperate to reassure her mother that she’s okay, Callie attempts to communicate with her from beyond the veil. They both begin a heart-wrenching journey to find one another once again.</div>

* I recieved The Dreaming Road free in exchange for an honest review. This no way effects my opinion all thoughts or feelings are my own.*<br />
<br />
My Thoughts:<br />
<br />
I have to say after I recieved the email to review The Dreaming Road I was instantly intrigued and automatically told the publisher that I would love to read this book. Then I read a series of sad books and I kept putting off reading The Dreaming Road because I wasn't ready for yet another sad book. Going into this book knowing it was about a mother grieving over her daughter's suicide made me think that I was going to be crying throughout the whole book. That didn't happen. I grew deeply attached to Diane and her journey, but I didn't cry at all while reading this book. I think the author did a great job writing about grief and life in heaven.<br />
<br />
When I first started this book I was immediately interested in the story. Even though on the day I started this book I had a busy day I took this book with me and I would find any spare moment I had to read The Dreaming Road. I was so interested in Callie's life in heaven and I was connected to Diane's story here on Earth.<br />
<br />
I like the way the story moved slower the first year that Callie passed away because that was when Diane was feeling the most emotions, but years 3-5 she skipped parts because she wasn't feeling the intense grief she felt in the beginning. As with any suicide I was always searching for Callie's reason that she commited suicide. Like Diane it gave me peace just hearing her talk in the book through mediums.<br />
<br />
I think Elizabeth Moore painted such a vivid picture of heaven and I thought of my experience reading Heaven Changes Everything by Todd Burpo many years ago where they said that they ancipate the day that they get to see heaven. I think about that myself again that I'm excited to go to heaven after I have lived my life here on Earth. I think Diane was incredibly brave to reach out and ask for help from professionals and other people experiencing grief. I think this was a very important part of her journey to find joy in her life.<br />
<br />
I really enjoyed the ending of this book. It brought a lot of peace and it was nice to see that life does move forward after loss. Although I have not personally experienced suicide of a close family member I have had people in my life that have died unexpectatly and some chose to take their own life. Elizabeth Moore wrote this as an inspirational novel and I think that is exactly what it turned out to be. I will also mention that I do not believe in everything that happened in this novel, but I don't doubt anything she said completely. I will just have to wait until I go to heaven to really know if some of these things are true. Overall I highly recommend The Dreaming Road and I enjoyed my exprience reading this book.Rachaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16995852403732466959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4136855315471306013.post-40421534506438486742018-03-13T06:00:00.000-07:002018-03-13T06:00:57.628-07:00My TBR List Review: On Mystic Lake by Kristin Hannah <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My Thoughts: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I never seem to be able to find the right words to describe my feelings after reading a Kristin Hannah novel. This novel had me intrigued quickly and had me actively involved with the characters from the very beginning. I fell in love with this novel and it was a book that was hard to put down. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This story is about Annie Colwater who has what she thinks is the perfect life. She has a 17 year old daughter Natalie and her husband Blake, who is a well known laywer. She has spent her life loving Blake, and taking care of him and her daughter. She has been happy with the life she has led as a housewife and a mother. Natalie is off on a 3 month journey to London. After dropping her off at the airport Blake confesses that he is in love with somebody else and he wants to get a divorce. Annie is devestated and truly she didn't see this coming. She heads back to her hometown of Mystic, Washington to spend time with her dad and find herself. This is where she reunites with an old friend, Nick Delacroix, who has recently lost his wife and is struggling to find his way through his grief. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think Annie's progression in this novel seemed pretty natural. She started out completely lost with no idea how to be a single woman after 20 years of marriage. She also wasn't really sure she knew who she was when she didn't have somebody to take care of. I think her finding out about Kathy and finding Nick again was the main focus of this story and my favorite part of this entire book. Their first meeting it was hard to see where their story would go after that. Then Annie began to take care of Izzy and I fell in love with how caring she was for this little girl, who was so deeply broken and grieving after the loss of her mother and in some ways the father she knew also. Annie ended being such a healing force for both Izzy and Nick. She changed them in incredible ways. She brought them closer as a family. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In this journey Annie found herself. She found the person she was meant to be. She found a way to be truly happy and she realized that in her previous life she was more worried about everybody else and never took anytime for herself. I loved Nick and Annie's realationship. I loved the time they spent together. I loved every second of watching Nick become the father he was meant to be and overcoming being an achololic. I think Nick has regrets in his life, but the choices that he made as a teenager were the choices he felt like he needed to make. In the end Nick told Annie that "Love matters. Maybe it's the only thing that does." Despite what happened later in the novel the love that Annie and Nick shared healed them both. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Just when everything seemed to be settling in to place for Annie, it is time for Natalie to come home. Despite how much Annie wants to stay in Mystic. She promised her husband that they would make a decision when Natalie returned home, but Annie finds out some shocking news that makes her decision even more difficult to make. Natalie comes back and in Annie's words is more grown up than she has ever seen her and she is looking at her mom and dad's marriage differently. She figured out how much her dad doesn't know about her while she was away in London and it has given her new insight that she doesn't truly know her father because he is never home and when he is he has no idea how to talk to his daughter and no idea how to treat her mother. Annie is commited to being a family. That is all she has ever wanted is a family, but after he summer in Mystic she is realized that the man she truly loves doesn't live in Southern California. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Annie realizes so many things about herself in the novel and for once in her life she decides to put herself first. I loved that the book ended on a happy note the way I wanted it to end, but I do wish that she would have given us just a few more pages about what Annie's new life looks like. I loved On Mystic Lake. I think it was a great book and I highly recommend this book as I do many Kristin Hannah books. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The idea behind this series is that you look at the books on your Goodreads TBR pile and chose to keep the books or delete the books.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I think it is going to help me look at my goodreads TBR and get rid of books I'm no longer interested in. Today I'm doing the first ten books on my TBR. Something that you will find out about the beginning of the list is that I'm really attached to this books despite the fact that I haven't read them. They have made it through countless purges of the TBR because I care about them. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here are my three categories for this. Keep, Delete, or Read by the End of 2019. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2019 ends my 5 year Deal Me in Challenge and most of the books that were on that challenge list that do not get read by the end of the 5 years will end up getting deleted off my goodreads TBR. I will be setting that as a deadline for some books that I like, but if I don't read them then they will be deleted then. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIdR3xQ6FpoehA-KHmg4RpxzU4TJkiYBMtlnsu6_OJZ6LOR3Q6iShifQm9hR7p-fFaOV2QoLIZGdWco3dwUg0-vIRDFgG51cLYCJB7J8BlNMdV_f1nVgNuHpGfgT_L7m_x2oSDDG8S0yE/s1600/Down+the+TBR+1-10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1210" data-original-width="1216" height="636" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIdR3xQ6FpoehA-KHmg4RpxzU4TJkiYBMtlnsu6_OJZ6LOR3Q6iShifQm9hR7p-fFaOV2QoLIZGdWco3dwUg0-vIRDFgG51cLYCJB7J8BlNMdV_f1nVgNuHpGfgT_L7m_x2oSDDG8S0yE/s640/Down+the+TBR+1-10.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1. Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner- I have checked this book out from the library several times with no real sucess. It is on my Deal Me In list so I would like to read it for that challenge. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2. Home Front by Kristin Hannah- I'm reading a Kristin Hannah book currently and she is one of my favorite authors, but I don't read her a whole lot. When I do pick up a Kristin Hannah book I always enjoy it, so I'm excited to read Home Front.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3,9,10. Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors. I love reading her books and I'm almost caught up with her backlist books. I think I will ge to these someday. I host readalongs with my goodreads group every so often, which does push me to read another Jodi Picoult book. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
4, 5, 6. Anybody that knows me know that I'm a big Little House fan, but I'm a little bit wiery of these three since they weren't written by Laura. All the reviews are really good and I think the authors did their research, so I would like to try to read these, but if I don't they will be deleted in 2019. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
7. At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks- I deleted a bunch of Nicholas Sparks books I haven't read earlier this year. I kept this one because I read the 1st book, but that was several years ago. I'm going to give myself another year and then this book needs to go. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
8. Who Loves You Best by Tess Stimson- The summary in this book is very interesting to me that I keep looking at deleting this book, but I keep it because I like the summary. I'm myself a little more time to read it, but a deadline, so it doesn't sit on my TBR forever. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There are my reasons. I'm going to try to do this monthly. </div>

February was a meh month for reading. I didn't have any 5 star books and it is really hard to pick out a favorite for the month. None of these will end up being end of the year favorites.<br />
<br />
Destiny Rewritten was a middle grade book about Katherine trying to find her distiny as she wants and not how her mom wants her destiny to be. There was a lot of poetry references in the book since the main character was named after Emily Dickenson. This was a quick read, since it was middle grade, but I just expected to like it better.<br />
<br />
Princess Academy is a middle grade book also. I just expected this to be different than it actually was. I expected it to be more like Jessica Day George's Princess of the Midnight Ball. It was totally not the princess book I expected. Miri isn't even technically a princess in this book and it just didn't have the fairy tale feel I was looking for. I will end up continuing the series because I did enjoy it for the most part.<br />
<br />
Mercy was a part of a readalong I hosted with the Jodi Picoult goodreads group. I read this book fast because I was hoping to finish a couple more books in the month, but that did not end up happening. I had some issues with Mercy, but I did end up enjoying it.<br />
<br />
Panis was my worst read of the month. I listened to it on audiobook and I just never got into the book. I watched Jessethe reader's review and I probably got more out of that review than I did out of Panic itself. I thought this book was really bad, the characters had no personality, and they did some really stupid things. I just never felt a connection to the characters throughout the book.<br />
<br />

Here is the four books I want to read this month. I think I should be able to complete all of them as long as I ignore the library books I still have checked out.Rachaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16995852403732466959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4136855315471306013.post-90123800084724034852018-02-25T06:00:00.000-08:002018-02-25T06:00:02.575-08:00Small Great Things Paperback Giveaway<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'm so excited to announce that I'm hosting another giveaway for Jodi Picoult's Small Great Things. It was just released on paperback and the publisher was kind enough to give away three books to my lucky blog readers and members of the Jodi Picoult goodreads group.<br />
<br />
All Tasks will be verified that you completed them and this giveaway is open to US residents only.<br />
<br />
I read Small Great Things when it was originally released and I loved this book. I think it was such an eye opener for me. I think that this is a book that everybody should read to see that racism is still a very real thing in the US. I highly recommend it.<br />
<br />
I will say that I will allow you to enter this giveaway if you have read the book, but do not own a copy, but if you already own a copy of Small Great Things please refrain from entering the giveaway and let people that haven't read this book a higher chance of winning.<br />
<br />
The giveaway will end on March 4th at Midnight and I will pick winners the following day. They will be announced here on the blog. </div>

I got this idea from Lauren @ <a href="https://bookmarklit.net/2018/01/17/books-read-month/">BookmarkLit</a> who got the idea for Christina @<a href="https://girlinthepages.com/2018/01/12/how-do-my-reading-habits-fluctuate-by-month/"> Girl in the Pages</a>. I'm comparing my stats over the past 5 years that I have been blogging. I'm comparing the number of books I read by month and the release dates that I read by year. I'm super excited to share this post and analyze all the stats.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKqTHm_0IYwUtKBO3Zs3jXxTtb9TeeIA_IGzjpSFuBXi3XQ5qzZmCdchxTUnHivdJ6fJF7zrczW34J5OLvDkr9QPwCG-Qxr4nnaDTui-6pJjrMjRdCvlD43X_rB-jiliKV13W4x_gLVLs/s1600/books+per+month.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="454" data-original-width="651" height="446" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKqTHm_0IYwUtKBO3Zs3jXxTtb9TeeIA_IGzjpSFuBXi3XQ5qzZmCdchxTUnHivdJ6fJF7zrczW34J5OLvDkr9QPwCG-Qxr4nnaDTui-6pJjrMjRdCvlD43X_rB-jiliKV13W4x_gLVLs/s640/books+per+month.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
2013:<br />
A lot of things have changed since I started blogging in 2013. In 2013 for the first half of the year I was a high school senior and I read a lot of books in my last 5 months of high school, but I slowed down throughout the rest of the year especially as I started college and finding a reading routine during my first year of college.<br />
Total Read: 66<br />
<br />
2014:<br />
This was easily my best year of reading. I read a lot of novellas and some shorter books. I read a lot of 2014 releases, but also caught up on 2013 releases during this year. I read a lot of books throuhgout 2014.<br />
Total Read: 71<br />
<br />
2015:<br />
This year was my worst year out of the 5. I was in a reading slump for most of the year and I just didn't read a lot overall this year. I wasn't motivated to read, but I did read a few books I really loved during 2015.<br />
Total Read: 38<br />
<br />
2016:<br />
2016 was a good year of reading. I was pretty consistent throughout 2016. I did have some months where I read more and some where I read less, but overall I really enjoyed my reading year in 2016. I started student teaching in fall of 2016.<br />
Total Read: 46<br />
<br />
2017:<br />
I finished up student teaching in May of 2017 and started my teaching job in August of 2017. My reading took a nose dive at the beginning of the school year, but it is picking up now that it is January. 2017 was a great year of reading and I read so many amazing books.<br />
Total Read: 52<br />
<br />
Most Read:<br />
The three months where I read the most are June 2013, April 2014, and May 2014<br />
June 2013:<br />
I don't really remember why I read so many books this month. I know it was the month before I started my summer classes that I was taking in 4 weeks on campus, so I probably was trying to sneak in as much reading as I could. I ended up reading 11 books<br />
<br />
April and May 2014:<br />
April 2014 was my third Dewey's readathon and I had a chance to just read all day and really just enjoy the readathon. I think that kind of put me on a reading high that carried right over into May 2014. I end up reading 11 books both months.<br />
<br />
January Over the years seems to be pretty consistent where I read 6-7 books and my reading usually picks up at the beginning of the year.<br />
<br />
April always seems to be a good month for me and I think that is because of Dewey's readathon.<br />
<br />
September-November are usually the months where I read the least. I usually only finish 2-3 books during those months. September 2016 broke this tread and I would have to give this to a team challenge I was involved in called WOBBLE. This challenge really motivated me to keep reading even when the school year started.<br />
<br />
December usually picks up my reading a little bit since I'm reading Christmas books which are usually short and I can get a few done.<br />
<br />
Overall I think it is so much fun to compare how many books I read over a year. There are not a whole lot of treads in my reading, but there are some consistencies over the years.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVM_cmN47KqTamWrdk6zxUbCSXJl2Ij95YN3xEg9CGP82j0s3y3zoK3hj7032ChB7E1hvYR1A7fPqt1Fq8h5yLY1HN_yxm3frjV4K3kKKjE8EtgROJyK22s07iYKD5p_R4Wh0wnMnnNnc/s1600/Capture.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="423" data-original-width="729" height="370" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVM_cmN47KqTamWrdk6zxUbCSXJl2Ij95YN3xEg9CGP82j0s3y3zoK3hj7032ChB7E1hvYR1A7fPqt1Fq8h5yLY1HN_yxm3frjV4K3kKKjE8EtgROJyK22s07iYKD5p_R4Wh0wnMnnNnc/s640/Capture.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
Overall I don't read many books published before 2000, but I do usually read a few every year. The number of pre-2010 reads has decreased as those books have got older.<br />
<br />
<br />
As of right now 2013 is my most read release date with 49 books, 2014 I read 37, 2015 I have read 19, 2016 I have read 16, and 2017 I have read 10.<br />
<br />
There isn't as much to analysis with this one. 2014 was a high year for new releases. I focused a lot on 2013 and 2014 releases that year. It is more evenly split with 5-10 books for each year from 2010-2017 the rest of the years.<br />
<br />
I hope you enjoyed this post. I so enjoyed making it and seeing my stats over the past 5 years.<br />
