Top Ten Books to Read When You Need Something Light

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and the Bookish

This weeks theme is the top ten books when you need something light. I had a really hard time putting my list in an order and I had a really hard time only sticking to only 10 books so I went over. Please don't take the numbers too seriously on this post because they are pretty random.

Light Books:
1. Bumped/Thumped by Megan McCafferty-Bumped and Thumped are about a furturistic society where adults can't have children and are paying teens to have their babies. Bumped and Thumped follow twin Melody and Harmony. It might sound pretty serious when it is covering teenage pregnancy, but there really isn't anything too serious about these books. They are light and pretty quick reads.

2. The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen- It has been two years since I have read The Truth about Forever and I still have not forgotten how amazing it is. The Truth about Forever is about is about Macy spending a boring summer when her boyfriend Jason leaves for brain camp, but Macy stumbles across a new catering job and makes some new friends. Her whole summer is changed. The book was amazing and a book that I just breezed through.

3. Love the One You're With by Emily Giffin- This is one of my favorite Emily Giffin books. It is about Ellen who meets her long lost love Leo. She must discover is she wants to be with her husband or the one that got left behind. This book was a lot about being grateful for what life gives you. Amazing book.

4. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer- I think everybody knows this book is about Bella Swan who falls in love with vampire Edward Cullen. There isn't much hard thinking that goes into this book, but I loved it along with Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.

5. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl- This book has a similar summary to twilight. It is about Ethan Wate who falls in love with Lena Duchanne, a caster who will turn light or dark on her 16th birthday. Please do not judge this book off the movie because the movie changed everything about the book. I loved the book and it was a great read.

6. Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen- the second Sarah Dessen book I have sneaked into this post. I read Lock and Key back in October of 2012 and it was such a fast read. What I really liked about this book was how much the characters changed throughout the book and it was usually for the good. Lock and Key is about Ruby whose mother abandoned her for a few months and she has been living on her own. Until her neighbors discover her and she goes to live with her sister Cora who she hasn't seen or spoken to in years.

7. Cinder by Marissa Meyer- Cinder is a futuristic retelling of Cinderella where Cinder is a cyborg set in Beijing, China. There isn't really a serious theme in this book, but it was amazing and I highly recommend it. I still haven't read the second book Scarlet.

8. Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen- do you see the pattern yet. Along for the Ride is about Auden who meets a boy named Eli while she is spending the summer with her dad. Auden and Eli don't sleep at night so they spend the night roaming the town together. Eli makes it his mission to help Auden be a carefree teenager. I loved Along for the Ride for the fact that is wasn't a super serious read. Auden and Eli felt like people I know and would talk to. It was a very relaxing carefree read.

9. Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick- This book does have the very serious theme of mental illness in. Mental Illness is something our society is very sensitive about and we need to start being more open about. Besides that aspect Silver Linings Playbook is a book about finding yourself, and finding the silver lining in everything.

10. There's Something about Christmas by Debbie Macomber- If you want a book that will make you laugh page after page you need to read There's Something about Christmas. Christmas is a time when I like to go away from serious books and just enjoy the positive things about life. There's Something about Christmas is literally about fruitcake, but once you read it you will realize it is about so much more.

11. What Happens to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen- This book was wonderful. I read it shortly after it came out and I was just wowed by what an amazing book it was. Mclean has moved several times throughout her life each time they move to a new town she comes up with a fake name and a fake background, but when everybody finds out who Mclean really is for the first time in four year Mclean just has be herself. I really liked how slowly the relationship came out. They didn't just look at each other and say hey I love you. It was a slow progression. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

12. When Christmas Comes by Debbie Macomber- This is the book Trading Christmases on the hallmark channel is based after. It is about two people who trade homes for the Christmas holiday one so he can have some peace and quiet to write his book. The other so she can visit her daughter. Nothing goes the way they plan. The idea for this book is amazing and I fell in love with every aspect of the story.

13. Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen- The list of Sarah Dessen. Someone Like You was the first book I read by Sarah Dessen and I do have to admit this book is not completely a light book because it has some serious things such as the death of Scarlet's boyfriend and Scarlet's teenage pregnancy. This book is about being normal for one last summer, a summer love, and best friends. It is my favorite Sarah Dessen book and I recommend it highly.

14. Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer- Between the Lines is about Deliah who reads the same fairy tale over and over again. Oliver is desperate to escape the pages of the fairy tale. This book is an amazing fairy tale retelling. It was such a creative idea and the ending is so unpredictable.

15. Keep Holding On by Susane Colasanti- This book takes the very serious theme of bullying and turns it into a book that isn't overly light, but knows teenagers so well. I think this book is still a light book because it is mostly about the love of Noelle and Julian.

16. Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson- I just read this book recently and it was an amazing retelling of Peter Pan in Tinker Bell's point of view about Tiger Lily. Jodi Lynn Anderson had a lot of room for imagination with Tiger Lily and I think she did an amazing job.

Thanks for reading and I will see you back next week with an even longer list about books that talk about hard subjects.
