My TBR List Review: I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson (no spoilers)

Hosted by Michelle @ Because Reading

Book: I'll Give You the Sun
Author: Jandy Nelson
Publication: September 16, 2014
Source: Own
Read: July 5-14, 2016
Summary (from goodreads):
A brilliant, luminous story of first love, family, loss, and betrayal for fans of John Green, David Levithan, and Rainbow Rowell.

Jude and her twin brother, Noah, are incredibly close. At thirteen, isolated Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next door, while daredevil Jude cliff-dives and wears red-red lipstick and does the talking for both of them. But three years later, Jude and Noah are barely speaking. Something has happened to wreck the twins in different and dramatic ways . . until Jude meets a cocky, broken, beautiful boy, as well as someone else—an even more unpredictable new force in her life. The early years are Noah's story to tell. The later years are Jude's. What the twins don't realize is that they each have only half the story, and if they could just find their way back to one another, they’d have a chance to remake their world.

This radiant novel from the acclaimed, award-winning author of The Sky Is Everywhere will leave you breathless and teary and laughing—often all at once.

My Thoughts:
This is my June TBR List winner.

Noah and Jude are twins that live in two very different worlds. They defy all odds to be twins that care about each other, but do not get along. This book was so unique in the fact that Noah tells their story from the point of view of a 13 year old. Then later in the book we are introduced to Jude who tells the story of their life at 16. We see a very different world in the next three years between the two stories.

The book begins with 13 year old Noah a lost boy, secluded in his own world. His part of the story was hard to understand at first. All the events seemed random until Jude came along to explain the story and and puzzle pieces began to unravel. And so evolved the story of growing up, finding yourself, forgiveness, and an unforgettable mystery.

I fell in love with both characters. They both have their own personalities and hobbies. They both have their good traits, but also have their demons. Nobody is perfect and Noah and Jude find themselves in a world where nobody understands the turmoil they are going through. I found the aspect of art very important to this story especially who Noah is. I spent the whole novel trying to put together the puzzle pieces, but the ending still came as a shock as I never would have guessed that. This is my first book by Jandy Nelson and I'm excited to read her other book soon.

24 in 48 Readathon Sign Up

Link to Sign Up

The goal is to read 24 hours in 48 hours. I mean this seems like a fair challenge, but that is just the thing it is still a challenge. When you account that 16 of those 48 hours are spent asleep. I'm going to shoot for reading 12 hours since we will go shopping on Saturday and that takes up a good portion of the day. I will plan to read as much as possible during this readathon. This will help me get ahead with my challenges and get closer to getting caught up with my goodreads goal. My updates will be found on this post and I will do a wrap up at the end.

This is What Happy Looks Like will be my main book this week along with Two Way Street Until I finish it. I will see how this readathon goes. I have been loving readathons this month. Virtual Adult Summer Reading Challenge 2

This is the 2nd challenge for the Virtual Adult Summer Reading Program. I have wrote many library posts that I have featured on my blog. Anybody that has read my blog for awhile knows I love my local library.

My Library Story: How I got started with reading and fell in love with the library
Volunteering at my college library: Great Way to spend my time as a college student
My Love of Libraries: This one includes pictures of my local library and why I like reading books from the library
Our Newest Library Grand Opening: This library is already almost three years old. I still love the selection that this library has.

In middle school and high school I was in the library all the time. Even these past few years of college I went to the library several times over Christmas break and Summer break, but this summer I have been mostly focusing on books that I own, so I haven't checked out as many books from the library. So far I have only been to the library once this summer.

My library has an amazing digital collection. I love to check out books to read on my kindle. They make great books to read before bed. I also love our request system that gives you the ability to get a book from any of the 13 branches shipped to your library of choice.

I love my library and I hope that you have an amazing library also. The library gives me the ability to read books I would never have picked up otherwise.

Summer Reading Week 1 and 2 Update

Week 1 I read 326 pages. I read 228 pages to finish off Me Before You. Then I read 98 pages of I'll Give You the Sun. This is pretty good considering we left for vacation and I unfortunately can't read in the car.

Week 2 I read 477 pages and completed my goal. I read the remainder of  I'll Give You the Sun, which was 273 pages. Then I read the whole novel of Sinful Cinderella, which was 158 pages. I read 46 pages of Two Way Street.

This week I'm going to be reading This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith and Two Way Street by Lauren Barnhodlt.

#Shelflove 2016 June Post: Midyear Update

Here is all the Unread books on my bookshelf. Sorry if you can see all the titles. Some of these are new since January 1st, 2016, so they don't necessarily count for the challenge. But right now I have 78 unread physical books and I started with 57. Some people would say I'm failing this challenge, but I don't think so. For sure I have accumulated more books, but I have been actually reading books off my shelf too instead of just letting them sit there.

Here are close up of all the books. I have some real winners I hope to read soon. I either donate them back to the library or keep them depending on the book.

Here are the books I have read. Book 1 and 3 are kindle books. I'm working on my third kindle book that I own. I read a lot of library books on my kindle.
1. The Trouble with Christmas by Debbie Mason
2. Wonder by R.J. Palacio
3. The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith
4. Heidel by Anita Valle
5. Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah
6. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Summer TBR Wipeout Sign Up and Books I Want to Read

Hosted by Candid Cover

I have been finding so many summer challenges, but I'm always up for a good challenge. I'm going to try to read 6 books during this challenge. Check Out my Summer TBR List for the books I might read. The idea is to read as many books as you can to make a huge dent in your Summer TBR. I would like to get as much reading done before I start student teaching in the fall.

I chose these 10 books to read this summer and as we start the month of July I haven't read any of them. I want to make a dent in this list.

Biannual Biblethon Sign Up and Updates

This readathon runs from July 3rd-July 9th. We are leaving for vacation on the 7th, so I'm going to try hard to read as much as possible this week. This also is the first week of my Summer Reading Challenge where I pledged to read 300 pages per week. On my TBR this week is I'll Give You the Sun, Isla and the Happily Ever After, and finishing Me Before You. I'm starting this readathon at page 170 of Me Before You.

Me Before You satisfies the challenge of reading an author you have never read
Isla and the Happily Ever After satisfies the challenge of reading a book you have been putting off
I'll Give You the Sun is my wild card/free choice book.

March -June Wrap Up and July TBR

The Choice was my only read for the month of March. The Geography of You and Me, Heidel, and Clockwork Angel were my April reads. In May I read Winter Garden and Winter. In June I read See Me and Summer Days and Summer Nights.

I really enjoyed all these books. The Geography of You and Me was slow at points, but I overall enjoyed the story. If you would like to see reviews for any of these books you can check out my goodreads pages. I read a lot of these books slowly due to college and having a lot of homework. My reading speed has picked up since I have been home for summer.
We are going to be on vacation from July 7-15, so I probably won't read as much while I'm away, but I still think I can finish these books in July. Second Chance Summer and The Summer I Turned Pretty are my Make Me Read it winners.
