The Book Chat {Book Blogging}

Photobucket

I have not done a book chat forever. I have been super busy on Thursdays and haven't been able to write up the posts, but at long as I like the topics I should be back for the next couple of weeks.

This weeks post is about book blogging. Why did I choose to book blog when I could have started any blog I wanted? At first I wasn't sure what kind of blog I wanted to run. I knew I couldn't always just talk about my life. Then one day in December I was bored and I decided I was going to start a blog. I published my first post about my book resolutions for 2013. Ever since then I knew I was going to run a book blog with pieces of my life sprinkled in the posts.

How has blogging change what I read?
Without me really knowing it my reading habits have changed. In 2012 I read many books by the same author in a row and I read less books last year. This year I feel like I need to finish books faster so I can get my reviews up. For the first time I started to read reviews and write my own reviews which I had never done either before. I realized the amount of books to read was limitless. I started reading different books such as fairy tales and new authors. I only read a couple new authors last year and this year I have read a little over 15. I also believe I read a lot more YA where I read more adult last year. I'm trying to keep a good mix. I read a lot of YA blogs and they all review amazing books so I want to read them too. I believe people need to extend their reading interests and read adult books also. My favorite adult authors are Jodi Picoult, Debbie Macomber, and Kristin Hannah.

The only thing I don't like about my new habits is that I look at big books differently. I used to be able to take a month to read a larger book and now I stay away from them a little bit more. I feel like I don't have as much time for my favorite authors such as Jodi Picoult because I don't think I will be able to finish the book fast enough. That is why I did no TBR list this month so I could get back to free reading in June.

Thanks for reading

  1. I really love blogging but sometimes I do miss having the freedom to just read for fun. I mean I still enjoy reading, but sometimes I don't get to read books that I want to read because I feel like I have other commitments and I don't like that. I read the PLL and Lying Game series (theyre my guilty pleasure)... but I don't usually review them on my blog bc I don't like review series when they start to get past book 3. So the point of the story is that the last Lying Game book has been buried in my TBR pile since December and I still haven't had a chance to read it! It makes me feel like I need to get more time just for what I feel like reading (and how fast or slow I want to read it at).

    1. I totally agree, but I think I have kept a pretty good balance so far. I'm trying to let myself read more of the books I want to read.

  2. A lot o us have in common that blogging has pushed us with our reading, which I think is great. Blogging is a hobby that has helped us cultivate another hobby! I'm so happy that I've made more time than ever for my reading, and I love to write about it so it's a win-win!

  3. I do the same thing with big books. I find that I get so busy reading the review books that I don't take the time to read my favorite authors.

    1. I really wish I didn't do that because I would love to read more books by my favorite authors.

  4. I feel exactly the same! I started reading new books and I went from "there's nothing to read!" to "There's so much to read!" I also hate that I look at books differently now too. Great post!

    1. I totally agree. I mean I could read 100 books this year and not even scratch the surface of all the books I want to read. I think blogging has brought some good aspects out in me such as my ability to try new authors. I'm never going to fall in love with an author if I'm not willing to give them a chance.

  5. I am thinking of changing my blog to add more books to it. Right now I only post once a month about my reviews on the books that I read. I do have say I was a HUGE YA fan only. Now since starting my blog and following other book bloggers I have expanded. Not much but just a few here and there. I don't want to limit myself. I want to grow as a reader. One day I will read more Adult. I am going to check out the Authors you mentioned to see if they have a book or two I would like to read.

    1. I think I read a diverse array of authors, but I think I have started to lean towards YA more. That is why I switched it up a bit this month and made sure I was reading some adult authors and authors I love. I would like to recommend books to people that other book bloggers may never read.
